The bill, authored in Spanish, would provide 10 million illegals residing in the U.S. a path to citizenship.
Representative Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida has introduced a bill, called the DIGNIDAD (Dignity for Immigrants while Guarding our Nation to Ignite and Deliver the American Dream) Act, that would offer millions of illegal aliens a pathway to citizenship. Spanish for “dignity,” the legislation has received some bipartisan support, though several members of President Trump’s party have criticized the bill as offering amnesty.
The act would halt deportations of illegal aliens who have continually resided in the U.S. before January 2021. The current U.S. immigration percentage cap for foreign nations would be raised. Immigrants who have been deported in the past ten years would be allowed to apply for “dignity” status from their home country to return to the United States. The bill would also provide for judicial review of asylum denials through federal district courts, rather than immigration courts.
The act also orders the creation of humanitarian campuses “located in high traffic sectors of U.S. Border Patrol,” that provide “legal orientation programming and communication between aliens and outside legal counsel.” It would require the Department of Education to forgive 75 percent of law school for any attorney who “has completed not less than four years of full-time employment as an attorney providing legal services at a humanitarian campus.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for Speaker Mike Johnson and members of the House as they consider measures to provide a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.
- For senators and representatives to be prudent in their creation of legislation regarding immigration reform.
